What is SSC CGL?

The Staff Selection Commission (Combined Graduate Level Examination) known as SSC CGL. This examination is conducted for recruiting the staff to the Indian government departments, Ministries etc. Candidates interested to applying for the posts must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The candidates must belong to the age group of 20 to 30 years. However, the age limits may vary depending on the position applied. SSC CGL 2020:
 Staff Selection Commission conducts the SSC CGL examination every year for the recruitment to various posts under Group B and Group C in various Departments under the Indian Government.

Candiates can apply for the posts like, Tax Assistant, Inspector, Assistant Audit Officer, Auditor, etc.

SSC CGL 2020 Application Fee

  • The application fee to apply for SSC CGL is Rs. 100/-
  • Females, SC, ST, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from paying the fee.
  • Applications fee should be paid only through SBI either in the form of challan or through SBI Net Banking or any other bank Credit/Debit Card. The Challan form will be generated online.
  • To pay the fee in cash, the candidate should take a printout of challan generated online after the completion of Part-1 registration. Deposit the requisite fee in any branch of SBI and then continue with the Part-2 registration.
  • Those candidates who want to pay online can go directly to part-2 registration after completion of part-1 registration. Candidate must fill the registration number and date of birth to continue to Part-2 registration.

SSC CGL 2020 Selection Process

The SSC CGL Selection Process have a total 4 stages to get the appointment letter for the desired posts. The SSC CGL notification has mentioned 4 tiers of examination, the details are given below:

  1. Tier 1: Objective Computer-Based (online) Test (MCQs) containing 100 questions
  2. Tier 2: Objective Computer-Based (online) Test (MCQs) with 2 compulsory papers and 2 other papers for specific posts
  3. Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi (Pen and Paper mode)
  4. Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test as per the post applied.

Before knowing the details regarding SSC CGL exam pattern and syllabus, here are some of the points that you need to know about the SSC CGL selection process:

  • SSC CGL 2020 Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam will be conducted in online mode.
  • The time duration of Tier-1 will be 60 minutes.
  • The time duration of Tier-2 will be 120 minutes. 60 minutes each for English & Quants.
  • Tier-3 will be a descriptive paper of 100 marks within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
  • No Sectional Cut off
  • No Interviews: Interview component has been dispensed with. There will, therefore, be no interview
  • Skill Test: The Skill Test will be of qualifying nature
  • Final Merit List: The merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III.However, the candidate will need to qualify all the tiers i.e Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III separately
  • Minimum Mark Required for Descriptive: Only those candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion will be eligible to appear in the SKILL TEST.
